Dr. Shelton recommends that children visit us at Cypress Pediatric Dentistry with the eruption of their first tooth or by age one. Our goal is for your child to have a happy, healthy smile. By visiting early, we hope to educate our families on how to prevent cavities and show our young patients that there is nothing to fear when going to the dentist. We welcome parents to accompany their child for each visit.
When it comes to your child’s smile, choose a specialist!
We designed Cypress Pediatric Dentistry to be kid-friendly. We want our patients to be excited to see us and to enjoy their time spent visiting us. We view parents as our partners and allow them to accompany children for routine cleanings and restorative work.
As a pediatric dentist, Dr. Shelton received an additional two years of training in the unique needs of children and their oral health. This specialized training allows her to provide comprehensive treatment options to our young patients to ensure they have a wonderful dental experience, especially when it comes to sedation dentistry.
At each cleaning visit at our Tomball, TX pediatric dental office, Dr. Shelton takes her time to review oral hygiene and dietary habits in order to prevent our young patients from getting cavities in the first place. When restorations are necessary, we offer tooth-colored fillings, stainless steel crowns, or white zirconia crowns. We also perform extractions and frenectomies for infants who are experiencing difficulty feeding.
Caring for Your Child’s Teeth at Home
Oral hygiene begins prior to eruption of the first tooth. We recommend wiping gums with a wet cloth after feedings. As soon as the teeth erupt, it is time to start brushing! Brushing your child’s teeth with the eruption of the first tooth will help ensure that your child has great oral hygiene habits as they grow older. This will also help prevent cavities and gum disease.
Dr. Shelton recommends brushing twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and using a smear of fluoridated toothpaste with the eruption of the first tooth.
If you have any questions about brushing and flossing your child’s teeth, we are always here to help!
